Aquarium
Wenn ein Aquarium auf die Seite gekippt wird, bietet es einen sicheren Fotokasten. Für besonders hibbelige Mäuse, kann es aufrecht stehen und einen Deckel drauf haben. Jedoch sollte dann auf die Spiegelung vom Glas geachtet werden.
Terrarium
In einem Terrarium lassen sich gute Bilder machen. Dabei kommt man mit der Kamera gut von vorne heran.
Externes Fotoshooting auf einem Tisch o.ä.
Wenn ihr eine freie Oberfläche wählt, wie z.B. einen Tisch, achtet bitte unbedingt darauf, das die Rennmaus nicht herunter stürzen kann. Rennmäuse können aus dem Stand 50cm hoch springen. Unterschätzt die Gefahr nicht. Deshalb ist eine geschlossene Unterbringung wesentlich sicherer.

Belichtung
Tageslicht ist immer noch das schönste Licht auf Bildern. Reicht dies nicht aus, hilft das reguläre Licht an der Decke und Klemmlampen, die neben dem Ort des Shootings installiert werden.
Kamera
Ob nun die Kamera vom Handy oder eine professionelle Spiegelreflexkamera verwendet wird ist nicht so wichtig. Hauptsache ist, dass die Qualität ausreicht, um alle relevanten Proportionen der Rennmaus zu sehen und nichts verwaschen, verpixelt oder verschwommen ist.
Das Aussehen der Rennmaus
Jeder kennt es, das Rennmäuse Charaktertiere sind und zu gewissen Zeiten unfotogen sind oder schlicht keine Lust haben. Bitte nehmt Rücksicht und lasst euch Zeit. Der Anmeldezeitraum beträgt 3 Wochen, sodass die Bilder auch um einige Tage verschoben werden könne, wenn es heute nicht klappt.
Die Maus ist heute etwas struppiger als sonst? Ist verschlafen und zerknautscht? Dann wählt lieber einen besseren Zeitpunkt, denn die Jury kann nur das sehen, was auf den Bildern zu sehen ist und nicht, den besseren oder schlechteren Zeitpunkt. Ist die Rennmaus wirklich unfotogen, kann das Video noch Punkte herausholen, wo die Bilder nicht so gut geworden sind.

Then choose a better time, because the jury can only see what can be seen in the pictures and not the better or worse point in time. If the gerbil is really unphotogenic, the video can still get points where the pictures have not turned out so good.
